I don't seem to find the time to write, which is unfortunate. But here I am, finally. I must say that it has been much more difficult recently since I haven't really felt like creating or sharing since my Dad passed away on November 28, 2010.
I have lost far too many people that are dear to me in my life, but this one has been the worst. Maybe it is because it is so fresh, I don't know, but the pain and sadness are sometimes overwhelming. I keep finding myself thinking it can't be, it just doesn't seem real yet. I'm not sure when this changes, but...

Part of the way I've made myself deal with this loss is to create. My family, including my Dad, is very creative and I think he would want me to carry on in this manner. I don't have his incredible talent, but it is what I have. I promised myself that I would create at least one thing every month. All be it just February, I have kept my promise. Here are a few of my creations. Caveat: I find my inspiration from other's beautiful work. So please know that if I copied your layout or just your whole card in general it is out of respect and admiration.

Created February 12 & 13, 2011

Clouds-SCAL

BP-wallpaper

banner-my creation

"The Sky is the limit"-Club Scrap (I think)

Buttons-Sizzix

Hot Air Balloon-image found and tweaked (added stripes and flags)

glitter glue on the clouds.

Created February 26, 2011

Inspired by Everlasting Ink
Asian stamp-Club Scrap

Rolled paper roses
Cuttlebug-little dot background

Martha Stewart-edge punch

pearls-cheap from Michaels

scallop cut scissor

DCWV, SU! cardstock

DBP-Unknown

Created in January 2011

Inspired by Cindy Lawrence
Little Birdie svg

Hello-"Warm Wishes" from TAC

Brushstroke Blossoms-SU!
Choc. I've been playing with my Cricut and having some fun!

I made the Sweet Strawberry card for a dear friend of my Mom's as she has been wonderful about visiting with my Father both times he's been in the hospital recently. She has been a dear and supportive friend and we wanted to show our appreciation.

I want to thank Michele Greenwood for her help as well. I made the next card just for fun. I liked how the strawberry turned out so much (my first really good attempt at creating a die on my own) I decided to try my hand at another summer treat. I've been enjoying having a Mohetto once in a while now that my mint is up and the weather is right so I had limes on the brain--smile. So here it is, my Slice of Summer...

Recipe: Size 4 x 4
Lime Slice & Leaves die Cut (own creation)
Bazzell cs (blue)
Memory Box cs (Limon)
Rain Drops (own creation, not name brand)
Stamp ("Hello Summer" from TAC Hello Seasons)
Ink (Jardin Moss & Landscape from Palette)
Other (die cut frame--file name: nunestieset 3, I want
to give whomever credit so let me know if this
is yours and I will be happy to share your name and site!)

Well that is all for now, I hope that you enjoy!

Kerry

Sense of Spring

I did a little work last night. I only call it "work" because it literally took me hours. I was frustrated, but then again everything good takes work to learn--smile.

I have to tell you that I totally cased Michele Greenwood (amazing stamper, check out her blog). I used a recently posted svg file from Stephanie , I thank you and adapted it a little. I liked the way the pattern of the paper really made the tulips pop (Basic Grey paper). I decided to use a swirly stamp set to fill in for the stems and leaves, but they svg file did have leaves and stems. I am really enjoying having a Cricut. I am however very glad I took my time in researching it because I found SCAL and a great group on the scalhints group--thank you everyone!

Smiles,

Kerry

New Cricut and SCAL!

I never thought I would take the plunge into Cricut, but I played with my SIL's this Christmas. Then I started doing more research and found this software that literally alleviates having to buy all of those cartridges (so it says). I was skeptical, but I started seeing all the great stuff people have done with both and that was all it took!

So yesterday was my first chance to play with them. After hours of trying it (not because it isn't an easy system, but I'm just thick sometimes) I came up with this card. Not my best work, but it gives you the point. The edging and the ribbon tag were created using SCAL and my cricut.

Thanks for looking.

K

Hello to Fall

I can't believe it has been as long as it has. Humane Society, Chloe. I'm so in love with her and my heart just explodes with joy. Isn't she adorable, not that I'm a proud Auntie.

What else, I am still very much in love with my wonderful husband. We celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary this June. I just can't believe it has been that long...We have been together since I was 15 and he 16, life moves so quickly.

I continue to consider myself profoundly fortunate to have fantastic parents, parents-in-law and family in general (Aunt, Brother & family, SIL). Ok, I'm extremely emotional right now, not sure why.

Ok, I haven't been stamping or scrapping in forever. When I learned that Jeff (husband) was laid off I gave it up in an effort to save money. So since May, I've been trying not to be tempted by all the fun new stuff. So instead, I focused on my gardens. They were so beautiful this summer, except for those darn Japanese Beetles! They loved chewing on many of my cannas, roses, zinnias, ahhhh heck almost any of my flowers. Starting on Thursday evening, only after being fine all day, I was completely down with this thing "that has been going around". Today is the first day that I've even been able to sit-up for any amount of time, miserable. I mentioned the other day that I would post pictures, well I was a little delayed, but here they are.

If you remember I mentioned going to a stamping night with a colleague from work and her friends. It was here that I met some great women with so much talent! They were kind enough to share their thoughts, ideas and even some supplies. It was wonderful getting inspired from so much talent. Well, I got this first page almost done in the 5 hours that we were there--lol.

This is a part of my recently begun heritage scrapbook regarding my Mom's family. This page actually contains my Grandparent's vows, their license and their guestbook. There is a letter in the envelope where my Grandmother asks her previous minister to oversee her marriage, he had moved away. What a wonderful thing to still have.

I came home and continued to work on the layout and came up with the second page.

I loved the pictures of my Grandparents. My Grandmother was always the more serious and less "public" one. She also kept things that were important to her, like this clipping from the news paper announcing her wedding and describing it. It turns out that my Grandmother was the daughter of a businessman in Beloit, WI so she had an image to keep. My Grandparents were married for over 50 years. I was actually a part of their 50th Wedding Anniversary--they were beautiful!

I also made this pretty card holder to enter into the contest the hostess was having.

Supplies

Paper: Various cardstock (two shades of violet, vanilla and white) dbp from Provo craft

Stamps: All from Club Scrap

Ink: Palette Grey and SU! ink too

Extras: Spellbinders scallopped circle die, lilac and black fun foam, silver brad, glimmer chalk from Pebbles, Dew Drops (on little butterflies bodies, hard to see) and ribbons.

So this was Friday, then on Sunday I went to a woman's home for what I thought was going to be a few hours of working on the creation of the flower that I posted earlier. She, like I, is a visual learner and wanted to walk through it together. Well what was going to be a few hours turned into a lovely day, including a wonderful lunch, with she and a friend of hers. What we learned about creating these flowers is that you have to have the big scalloped circle die from Spellbinders, it makes all the difference.

It is so nice to meet new, kind people who also love to stamp!

Chat later,

Kerry

New Friends

I had the most wonderful weekend last weekend. A colleague invited me to go with her to an all night stamping/scrapping event. It was wonderful to spend time with her outside of work and to meet some amazing people. These ladies are so creative and just lovely people. We mostly talked, but with their guidance I was able to almost complete a whole scrapbook page. This for me is a big deal, because I haven't scrapped in over a year. Then on Sunday I spent the afternoon with two other lovely women.

I had met a lovely lady last summer when she and a friend stopped by during my stamping/scrapbooking garage sale. Her name was Lu Ann and she contacted me a week ago after she had visited my blog and wanted to get together to create the flower I made using my Nestabilities. What a wonderful surprise to know that she had been keeping track of my blog all this time.

So I went over to her home thinking I was going to simply show her how I did it and then come home. She has the most wonderful studio, literally filled with all the great stuff needed to be creative. She had also invited another friend, Roxy, to join us and learn. So there we sat, Cuttlebugs at the ready...it was wonderful. These ladies are both fantastic! Lu Ann went a step further, she had lunch ready for us which was totally unexpected!

After we got done playing with the flower, Lu Ann showed Roxy and I how the Cricut works. Roxy is thinking about buying one and wanted to see it at work. I never wanted a Cricut, but boy is it awesome! I realized that it is capable of a great deal more than I knew.

So now, I feel so fortunate to have met so many wonderful people who share my same passions. I'll post pictures of recent creations tomorrow.

Need It...

...ok I don't Need it, but I want it so I think you should too--smile.

I'm going to be placing an order for Bazzill cardstock and other stamping scrapping stuff. Feeling better though so I thought "I'll clean house a little and then rest a little and then play a little." So I went out searching for inspiration, needing a lot of that recently. Wonder if anyone else goes through these long bouts of just not being inspired? I'm not thrilled with it at all, just lacking something. I wonder if my colors are wrong, stamp is wrong...

Supplies

Stamp: Club Scrap Desert Blossom (I think that was the kit name)

Ink: Palette Bordeaux and Moulin Rouge and Brilliance Pearlescent Crimson

Paper: Basic Grey Perhaps and Bazzill (blue/teal and buttery yellow)

Other: Fiber (this fiber is going into a swap I'm participating in with the Inky Fun Stamper Yahoo Group--great group), embroidered medallion, a chipboard flower and a bit of bling.

My source of inspiration was from You Tube Stamping With Heather, see below. I used the tutorial described by Linda at After Midnight Art Stamps. It is just wonderful and has so much potential! Please check this out when you can. Keep in mind that it is a 2 part tutorial (I've only provided the link to the first part.)

Linda does such a wonderful job of explaining the process. Enough so that even Iwas able to follow--smile. If you aren't sure how to use the Nestabilities in your Cuttlebug, which is what I used, it is pretty easy. Place the following in order from bottom to top: "A" plate, "C" plate, cardstock, Netabilities die and lastly (on top) a "B" plate. In Linda's video she also states having put her cardstock through one of the Cuttlebug Folders first. For my projects I did not. She also mentions using two-sided cardstock. Again, I chose not to instead I simply used the "direct to paper" technique to add interest to the backside of my paper.

Rather than make a tag like Linda describes doing I made this card for a friend at work. Never mind the fact that it is a little belated...sorry Sue! I had fun with this and found that I just could stop from adding "just a little more" every time I looked it over.

Supplies:

Paper: creamy, pearlized, textured paper (flower petals) pink plaid bg paper, banana yellow cardstock (Of course I don't know where, or from what companies any of this came from, just found it in my stash--sorry!)
Stamps: Squiggle Ladybugs (TAC)
Ink: Eggplant from SU!
Other: Pre-made tag, flower, sequin, fuschia colored glitter glue (Hard to see, but I put a little along some of the scalloped edges around the whole flower. Not too much though because I didn't want to detrack from the pearlized paper.) and large glue dots just like Linda recommends.

I had so much fun with this one, I couldn't help myself but make another, but with a twist.

After enduring -26F degree weather for the last four days I guess I needed somthing spring-like. So with today's "thaw" (all of 20F degrees), I made this fun card.

Supplies
Paper: Banana yellow cs, pink plaid and speckled ivory (again, I am sorry, but I have no idea about companies)
Ink: Eggplant, SU!
Stamp: Foam, large Dragonfly stamp from Michaels (this stamp is really large, measures at least 3 - 4" long and almost as wide)
Other: "Happy" sticker and yellow glass paint (on abdomen and wing edges so they look shiny)

Instead of making 8 petals (like the flower) I simply used 4 to make the wings. It was so much fun and added such wonderful dimension.

Hope you enjoy and I hope to see you soon!
Kerry

Sharing a New Year's Wish

Happy New Year!

We welcomed in the New Year with another medical surprise with my father (he is better now though). As I was anxiously waiting to hear how he was doing I worked on New Year's cards since I didn't get any Christmas cards out.

Jeff, my wonderful husband, took a picture of some ornaments that we put out on our blue spruce trees during the winter of 2008. The weather was just perfect winter weather and that included a light frost that encased the fragile ornaments. They just dripped with extra glitter, it was so peaceful. Jeff captured the look so perfectly. So of course they had to be shared with friends and family. I just hope I was able to enhance their substantial beauty.

I created the cards and sent them out with my New Year's wish that my parents would stay healthy, that my family and friends would know of the love I hold in my heart for each of them and that things in this gigantic world will only improve.

I hope to see you here again.

Kerry

Sweep, Sweep, Sweep

I am trying to do a little cleaning...

Please take a look at the for sale album. So this one was no exception. My husband and I have done some work for them around their house and gardens so they said (add the motherly tone here) "Kerry, we don't want you to give us any gifts. You've already done so much for us." So I listened, but I tried to make her a special card and this weekend we are taking them out for a nice dinner.

My Mom is one of my closest friends. Just to give you an example of how close we are, I can even stand to go shopping for clothes when she and I go out...and that is saying a lot--laugh. I am extremely lucky to have my parents, and my husband's parents for that matter, so close to us. They are always there for us if we need support and we for them. We both have siblings that live some distance away so they don't have the opportunities to go shopping or out to dinner and just enjoy being with one another. That is unfortunate for them, but good for us. Thank you for looking and I hope that you enjoyed.
Kerry

Happy Halloween

It has been an incredible couple of days--smile. We decided to take a day off of work, the two of us, and go to the Dubuque Museum and Aquarium. We have talked about going for some time as it comes highly recommended. It was wonderful and it is especially perfect if you have younger children with short attention spans because it is small, but very interactive. I will share pictures another day.

But for now I wanted to share a bit of my creativity. When one of our Vice President (and my mentor) left our College to go to another College we all pitched in to make her a scrapbook. I couldn't resist adding some pages. So this is one of my submitted pages. I incorporated a mini-book into my page. Within the book I included pages of different teams within the College that were under her direction. I had such a wonderful time creating this for her. My other pictures, outside of the mini-book included photos of sunrises in the county where she was going to and a sunset on the counties she was leaving. I wanted to give the book the gift of flight...flight to find new pathways and flight to inspire. She was spreading her wings...

Each page within the mini-book not only had pictures, but I created pockets (made from textured fabric) that held large tags (many sizes and shapes)that I disseminated to people I knew were very close to her. I asked them to do a little journaling to send her forward. They did such a wonderful job. I was even able to get in contact with those who would be working directly with her at her new school and asked them to fill in tags as a greeting. It turned out so well and I felt that it would provide her with the warmth of ourselves even after she had left. (I blocked out faces to protect their identities). For me that means my husband and our little zoo of pets--smile.

I just love this little one for many reasons, but not least of which is her desire to just cuddle with me. She climbs under the covers and snuggles right next to me, I think I have the smallest amount of understanding about what parents of two-legged kids feel like.

I can't forget the other two that always greet me with a smile and a kiss no matter how awful the day went. And of course it is only appropriate that this be a fall photo shoot. Morgan (yellow dog) is our eldest and she has always been our little model. When we first rescued her she had a weak tummy so not only would she pose for pictures she was also scrawny just like a super model--giggle. And if you think she's a Golden, she isn't. She is a beautiful mutt (Yellow Lab/Border Collie) and very smart. Aidan (white dog) is high energy and extremely intelligent. She has come such a long ways since we rescued her. Can you believe we got her after 2 families returned her to the breeder, she was arrested twice, spent time in the Humane Society and was part of a court order? Then we found out that she needed to move or she'd likely be destroyed. We went and saw her and the fleas were so thick on her that you could watch them run across her belly. Between the attack on her ears from flies and fleas her one ear is permanently flopped down like in the picture. Everyone thinks she absolutely adorable because of this ear, we think she's beautiful because she has become quite a wonderful, loving creature.

Thank you for looking, perhaps considering animal rescue/adoption (see your local Humane Society or click here to go to mine and see all the love that awaits you) and spending time with me. I'd love for you to share your animal adoption/rescue stories.

It has been far to long!

I can't believe that I've been gone so long. I'm embarrassed and surprised by my lack of contact. So much has changed since last I posted. Pak Rats Stamp, for one is no longer focusing on kits. I will not be focusing on all those things that people who love the craft want and try to provide great service and great prices. I had to remind myself why I got into this in the first place and it wasn't to make a fortune. It was to meet wonderful people who love to do some of what I love to do, to connect to my creative side and enjoy...

I want to get back to that. To do that, I must expand what this blog means to me...it is a place for me to connect, re-connect and to hopefully inspire and be inspired. So with that in mind I wanted to share one of my biggest pleasures that I threw myself at this summer--gardening! I completely re-did our center flower garden, tweak our newest area, built a pergola with my husband and planted a butterfly/hummingbird garden. I also have decided to focus more on my rose garden which up to this summer I hadn't given the attention it really deserved. So I expanded that a great deal and even as recently as yesterday I was still getting beautiful roses.

More Passion

The "Passion" kit just keeps providing more inspiration to me. I've needed inspiration as it has been -16 degrees here--burrrrrrrrrr! I have had a Cuttlebug for some time now, but I haven't pulled it out a played with it much since I "just had to have it". I tend to be a collector, hence the name of my company Pak Rats Stamp, and struggle with using. I love the embossing folders offered through Cuttlebug and I decided that now was the time to use it. Using the kit, I pulled out what the pattern from the "Flirt Collection" that I call "Wrinkled Sheets" and sent it through the Cuttlebug. Then using my Coluzzle, I cut out three circles and a heart. The top layer was watercolored using Palette ink and my paintbrush end to create the little dots. I then watercolored the brown layer to give it a distressed look. Lastly, I took a "U" from a Bazzill alphabet diecut collection and the heart and inter-linked them. I ran some sheer ribbon across the card and then adhered the circles. Looking at it I realized it just wasn't complete. So I used some paper ribbon and "stitched" it through

three coordinating mini-buttons. The paper ribbon curls so nicely. This was so very simple and fun, I hope you enjoy.

Card Recipe

Paper- Memory Box "Flirt Collection" from Pak Rats Stamp's "Passion Kit", Basic Grey

Ink- Palette Ink pads in brown and pink

Accessories- Coluzzle heart and circle templates, sheer ribbon, paper ribbon, Basic Grey

buttons and alphabet diecuts, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder

Bringing it to life

The other day I shared with you the new Passion Kit from Pak Rats Stamp. So now I've come up with a few samples that I hope will inspire you! I think that this will make a great mini album for my parents while they are down south for a month. They can take photos on their holiday and add them in there. It won't take much room and doesn't require any supplies. The center "heart" is actually a little pocket so they can even slide little memories in it, like a sand dollar or other small flattish shells. This was fun to create and I hope that you "love" it and try making your own, tfl.
General Dimensions:

12" x 6" cardstock for "wallet", scored to create four panels.

2" x desired length to create "wrapper"

1/2" x desired length to create layer on "wrapper"

11" x 2 3/4" (score in half, lengthwise, to create inside panels)

5 3/4" x 3 3/4" (approx.) piece cut to look like the top of a heart (score on sides and bottom to create pouch.

Flowers were created by cutting out flower images from the Memory Box Paper "Bouquet".

Recipe:

Passion Kit from Pak Rats Stamp
stamp: Fantastic Flourishes and Heartfelt Messages, Hero Arts
paper: cardstock, DCWV; DP, Memory Box
ink: Burnt Umber & Toile Pink, Palette
other: corner punch, Stickles

Winter Holiday Cards

I try to make our cards every year and this year my first card layout was very time consuming. Beyond being time consuming, I also couldn't decide what color I wanted to go with and the Basic Grey paper I choose was older so I couldn't find more to buy. So I made a few of them and shifted gears--slightly.

Recipe

Stamps: pine branch (Club Scrap), Joy (Hero Arts) and Holiday Interactive Circles (Limited Edition, Art Warehouse)

Paper: Basic Grey dp, colored cs

Ink: Varied

Other: ribbon, foam tape, glitter glue and Coluzzle circles

So before I went insane making these I switched to this more "simplified" card--smile. I now hope to have it up and going in the middle of January so please keep a look out for us! I will certainly post the minute it is up and going--don't worry.

I had created these samples to show people how versatile our kits are whether you are a non-stamper, an avid stamper or maybe more into scrapbooking. I was involved in a craft show in November and had these as make-n-takes. If someone said "I've never stamped" I could let them know that with the one (black/red/white) there was no stamping necessary. They were astonished to see how easy it really was to make a beautiful, little giftbox like this one. The plaid sample was much more time consuming, but it allowed people to play with the stamps and all the fun stuff. The wreath has little red, glitter berries on it which just wouldn't show up in the picture...it is lovely. I made about 20 of the black/red/white boxes and filled them with candies and in some cases a gift certificate and mini cookie cutter or I attached a little ornament to the outside using ribbon. People just loved them!

Recipe

stamps:Holiday Interactive Circles (Limited Edition, Art Warehouse)

paper: Bazzill Red cs, white cs and other dp (my friend Donna made the die-cuts for me).

other: ribbon, gold thread, permanent red marker, epoxy stickers, scallop punch, Coluzzle circle and red glitter glue

Welcome Pak Rats

Good Evening all you Pak Rats!

I've just begun this blog and want to welcome everyone and say "Watch as we really start rolling!"
